Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ has crossed the billion-dollar mark after less than 3 weeks in theaters.  The live-action remake of the 1994 movie features Beyonce, Donald Glover and Chiwetel Ejiofor in lead roles. The movie joins ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘Captain Marvel’ and ‘Aladdin’ as the fourth Disney title to surpass one billion dollars in global ticket sales in 2019. With its blockbuster slate, Disney has nearly 38 percent of the domestic market share, a cut that increases to more than 40 percent when Fox, which it just purchased, is added. ‘The Lion King’ earned 361 million dollars at the domestic box office and 638 million dollars overseas.  Outside of North America, it had especially strong showings in China with 115 million dollars, along with the United Kingdom with 48 million dollars and Brazil with 44 million dollars. A Roman Catholic church that stood in Texas for more than century mysteriously burned to the ground with insurance adjusters placing the damages at $3 to $4 million. The 125-year-old Church of Visitation in Westphalia caught fire on Monday morning July 29th, just as congregation members were planning a celebration for the anniversary of its completion. Video and photos captured at the scene show the historic house of worship engulfed in flames with some residents reportedly seeing smoke from as far as five miles away. “It’s extremely difficult and painful to be here. I’m very deeply affected by this and I know the people here are also heartbroken", Joe Vasquez, bishop of the Austin Diocese said as the church was burning. A 3-year-old boy from south-west China was miraculously saved after he fell from a six-storey building. The child was filmed desperately clinging onto a balcony of a building in Chongqing city's Jiulongpo district on Monday afternoon, July 29. Fortunately, residents noticed him and rallied around to save him. Some of the neighbours stood under him and waited to catch him if he falls. The child eventually got tired of holding on and he lost his grip and fell. Thankfully, the neighbours spread two large blankets below him and caught him before he could hit the ground. An Indian man identified as Raj Kumar, who was bitten by a snake got his revenge on the reptile by biting it back, killing it and chewing it into pieces, Raj Kumar’s father told newsmen on Monday that his son was relaxing at home, enjoying a drink on Sunday, when a snake slithered into his house in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, and bit him. “A snake bit him. So, in turn, he bit it and chewed it into pieces,” said the father, Babu Ram about the bizarre incident. Rajkumar, who hails from Etah’s Asrauli village, was drunk when he bit the snake, India Today reported. “My son was drunk. A snake entered into our home and bit him. And later he bit the snake and crunched it into pieces. His condition is serious. Michael Nwaogwu, a security guard was remanded in prison custody after being arrested by the Lagos State Police and arraigned before the Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Yaba for allegedly stealing from the offering box of a church. The security guard was arrested for stealing N2,385 from the offering box of the St. Dennis Catholic Church in the Akoka, Bariga area of the state. His arrest came after another security guard identified as Musa Ayay found out that the offering box had been tampered with. The money was allegedly found in his underwear after a search was conducted. Nwaogwu who was arraigned on one count of theft was granted bail in the sum of N30,000 with two sureties in like sum. The presiding magistrate, Oluwatoyin Ojuromi ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant before adjourning the case till August 19 for mention. He is however to be remanded in prison custody until he perfects his bail conditions.

The founder of an African-American history museum in Louisiana was found dead in the trunk of a car on Friday night. According to Baton Rouge Police Department, the body of Sadie Roberts-Joseph, 75, was found in the trunk of a car parked in the 2300 block of North 20th St, just three miles from where she lived at roughly 3:45 p.m. on Friday, July 12. Senator Elisha Abbo has commented on the murder of his uncle and abduction of his stepmother, by gunmen who struck in the early hours of Saturday at his family's residence in Muchalla ward, Mubi local government area of Adamawa state. The Kebbi state College of Science and Technology has expelled four female students who were caught having lesbian sex. The school provost, Aminu Dakingari says cleaners and security officers caught the girls in the act in their hostel. Speaking to newsmen in his office over the weekend, Dakingari said a disciplinary committee set up by the provost found the girls guilty after they confessed to the act. “They accepted that they committed the crime and we just have to expel them from school and they later resorted to threatening my life by sending me text messages, but the security agencies were able to rescue me from them,” Aminu said at a press conferenec in his office He stated that two of the expelled students are from Kotangora in Niger State while the others are from Sokoto and Kebbi states, respectively.
